Step-by-Step Guide to Making Angry Birds Steamed Buns
Mix the ingredients for the yellow dough in a bread machine for 20 minutes, let it rise at room temperature until doubled in size.
Form the white dough into a ball and let it rise.
Set aside a small piece of the yellow dough.
Divide the remaining dough into 6 equal portions.
Knead each portion and roll it into a round disc.
Divide the small piece of yellow dough into 6 portions as well.
Shape them into droplet shapes and make a cut in the middle.
Dip the small yellow dough pieces in water and stick them to the back of the larger dough as shown.
Divide the white dough into 3 portions (one slightly larger).
Take the smaller portion, divide it into 3 parts, and roll them into round discs.
Cut them in half and stick them to the lower part of the dough to create the bird’s belly.
Add a little red yeast powder to the second piece of white dough, divide it into 6 parts, and shape them into cones.
Make a cut in the middle and stick it on top of the white dough to create the bird’s beak.
Roll out the remaining 1/3 of the dough (slightly larger), cut out round pieces with a small piping tip. Make a total of 12.
Add bamboo charcoal powder to the remaining dough and knead it into black dough.
Roll it out and cut out round pieces with a medium piping tip.
Stick the black and white small round pieces together.
Use a tool with a smaller diameter to cut out the bird’s eyeballs and stick them on top as shown.
Finally, cut out 12 eyebrow strips (cut into rectangular strips first, then diagonally).
Place the eyes and eyebrows in the appropriate positions, and let the dough rise for 15 minutes (since the shaping process takes longer, the dough has already risen, so the second rise doesn’t need to be very long).
Steam over high heat for about 15 minutes after the water comes to a boil.
After steaming, to prevent shrinkage, slightly lift the lid of the pot and let it sit for 3-5 minutes before fully opening and removing the buns.
