Steps to make Hot Dog Bread
Pour all ingredients (except butter) into the bread machine in liquid-solid order to avoid flour flying around.
Set the bread machine to “knead” for 20 minutes. Add softened butter and knead for two more 10-minute cycles until the dough becomes smooth and can be stretched into a transparent film.
Take out the dough and knead it until it becomes smooth. At first, the dough will be sticky, but you can sprinkle some dry powder and knead it until it becomes less sticky and more elastic.
Roll the dough into a round shape and put it in a bowl for the first fermentation, which takes one hour.
After one hour, the dough has fermented to several times its original size. Poke it with your finger and it should not shrink or collapse, indicating successful fermentation.
Press the dough to release the gas and divide it into equal parts. Cover with plastic wrap and let it rest for 10 minutes.
Roll one of the dough balls into an oval shape, press a groove in the middle with a rolling pin, and place a hot dog in the groove. Use a scraper to carefully lift the completed bread dough and place it on a baking sheet.
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius for 2 minutes, then turn off the oven and put the bread dough in for the second fermentation. Alternatively, you can put a bowl of hot water in the oven to keep the humidity high and help the dough ferment beautifully. Ferment for one hour. Brush the bread dough with egg wash.
Squeeze salad dressing on top and bake in a preheated oven at 170 degrees Celsius for 30 minutes until golden brown.
The hot dog bread is crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and has a sweet aroma of hot dogs. It tastes great with a glass of milk.
