Steps to Cook Huajuan
This is the initial state of the dough made in the morning. As there were only two people, I used a large soup bowl and estimated the amount of flour. After the dough rises, it will be about twice as large, so be careful not to let it stick to the lid. I steamed about 6-8 Huajuan or steamed buns, and couldn’t steam more.
Roll it up, cut it into small pieces. Stack two or three pieces depending on the size, press the middle with chopsticks, pick it up, and twist it in opposite directions with both hands. Add water to the pot, put it in the steamer, and spread a cloth or oil on the steamer. – Try to spread a cloth, it is easy to remove after steaming.
Choose according to your own pot, all are put in cold water, and generally 25-30 minutes on a gas stove is enough. I used the quick cooking function of the smart rice cooker, and the porridge function can also be used. The remaining two were steamed in a small electric cooker. After cooking, place a plate or steaming basket next to it, quickly lift the cloth, place the Huajuan face down on the plate, and tear off the cloth. Be careful not to burn yourself.
