Steps to make Minion Pumpkin Steamed Bun
I used yellow pumpkin flour directly, so I didn’t need to steam the pumpkin. If you don’t have yellow pumpkin flour, you can mix plain flour with pumpkin puree to make the dough.
Mix 200g pumpkin flour, 2.5g yeast, 5g corn oil, and 100g water/milk in a bread machine and knead for 20 minutes in mix mode.
Mix 50g plain flour, 0.5g yeast, 2g vegetable oil, and 25g water with chopsticks until lumpy, then knead by hand. This is a small amount of dough for coloring, so it’s easy to knead evenly.
This is what the dough looks like after kneading.
The blue dough requires the most, but I don’t have enough blue dough here. You can use 1/2 blue dough, 4/1 black dough, and 4/1 white dough, which are made from butterfly pea pollen and bamboo charcoal powder.
Take out the yellow pumpkin dough from the bread machine and knead it by hand until the surface is smooth.
Roll the dough into a rectangle, then roll it up with a little water.
Cut it into pieces with a plastic knife. This is knife-cutting.
Make glasses with the black dough by kneading it into a long strip.
Flatten the black and white dough, then stack them to make the eyes.
Roll the blue dough into a thin sheet, then use a round mold to cut it into a “工” shape for the clothes.
Brush the surface with water, then assemble all the accessories together! Cover the buns during fermentation to prevent cracking.
This is the state after fermentation. It’s obviously larger than the previous one. To ferment, put a little hot water underneath and cover the pot.
Put cold water in the pot, cover it, and steam for 20 minutes, then let it sit for five minutes.
After it’s done, use a food coloring pen to draw the mouth and hair.
